PML-N Dominates Second Phase of AJK Elections

Second phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections concluded with(PML-N) securing a clear lead

Muzaffarabad/MIRPUR ,(Parliament Times): — According to unofficial  results of  elections to 10 out of all  12 Pakistan-based Jammu Kashmir Refugees seats in AJK  Legislative Assembly,  Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has secured a categorical lead in the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections held on Sunday, our Special Jammu Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao reports.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, reached to this Correspondent from the AJK Election Commission sources polling for eight seats of the Muzaffarabad Division and 12 seats reserved for refugees settled in Pakistan was completed on Sunday. Initial results indicate that the PML-N has emerged as the leading party, securing eight seats among the refugee constituencies, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won two seats. Results of two constituencies are still awaited.

In  Muzaffarabad Division, polling time was extended by one hour until 6.00 pm to facilitate voters. After the conclusion of polling, the counting process began at polling stations. In polling stations established across Pakistan, voting concluded at 5.00 pm, followed by the counting of votes.

Polling in one constituency of  Muzaffarabad Division was postponed after polling staff and election material failed to reach the polling station on time. The election in that constituency will now be held on August 4, authorotative official sources said.

According to the unofficial results received so far, the successful candidates from refugee constituencies include:

* PPP candidate Majid Khan from LA-40 Valley-I.

* PML-N candidate Syed Shaukat Shah from LA-42 Valley-III.

* PML-N candidate Raja Muhammad Siddique from LA-39 Jammu-VI.

* PPP candidate Asim Ghaffar Lone from LA-41 Valley-II.

* PML-N candidate Ahmed Raza Qadri from LA-44 Valley-V.

* PML-N candidate Muhammad Yasin Lone from LA-43 Valley-IV.

* PML-N candidate Maryam Javed from LA-37 Jammu-IV.

* PML-N candidate Zeeshan Ali from LA-38 Jammu-V.

* PML-N candidate Ahsan Raza from LA-36 Jammu-III.

* PML-N candidate Chaudhry Ismail Gujjar from LA-35 Jammu-II.

The unofficial results show that the PML-N has gained an advantage in the refugee constituencies; however, the final position of the winning candidates will appear clearly only after the Election Commission announces official results.

The polling process remained mostly  peaceful across different constituencies

Jubilant supporters and workers of the victorious political parties started celebrating the victory following the announcement of initial results. Election Commission authorities said that the process of compiling final results was  currently underway.
