AJK PM Orders Probe Into Alleged Attack on AJK Acting President:
MIRPUR : August 2: Azad Jammu Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore on Sunday taken serious notice of the alleged attack on Acting AJK President Chaudhry Latif Akbar and directed the Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police to ensure immediate arrest of the accused and prosecution of those involved.
In an official statement, issued on Sunday the prime minister expressed grave concern over what he described as inadequate security arrangements during the electoral process, saying such incidents undermine democratic values as well as the dignity of the state.
He instructed the concerned authorities to conduct a prompt and transparent investigation and bring all those responsible to justice without delay.
Rathore said the alleged attack on President Latif Akbar was an attack on the values of dignity, tolerance and principled politics in Kashmir, adding that such acts have no place in a civilized society.
The prime minister alleged that some miscreants affiliated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were involved in the incident. He reiterated that his government believes in the rule of law and would not allow anyone to take the law into their own hands.
He directed law enforcement agencies to initiate impartial legal proceedings against all those found involved, saying strict action was necessary to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
No official statement from the PML-N regarding the allegations was immediately available despite contact.
