AJK Govt defends Law Enforcement action, rejects allegations over July incidents
Muzaffarabad: AJK Secretary Information Muhammad Rashid Hanif has
rejected a recent BBC report on the situation in Azad Kashmir, calling it “factually incorrect” and issued without verification from government institutions.
Addressing a press conference, he alleged that claims made by the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) regarding the July 27-31 incidents in Rawalakot and surrounding areas were part of a “misinformation campaign.”
He said armed actions by the banned group resulted in the martyrdom and injuries of law enforcement personnel, while police and Rangers vehicles were damaged. He claimed evidence of weapons possessed by the group had already been presented by AJK Police.
Hanif said the AJK government had acted with restraint and professionalism to maintain law and order, rejecting allegations of unprovoked firing, torture, or withholding bodies by security agencies.
He added that the organization was banned under the Anti-Terrorism Act to protect public safety and state authority, stressing that no individual or group was above the law. He said official figures and the government’s position were available on the AJK Police’s official X account.
