New Zealand set 321-run target for Pakistan in Champions Trophy opener

KARACHI – New Zealand set a challenging target of 321 runs for Pakistan in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Playing at National Bank Stadium, Karachi, New Zealand posted 320 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

New Zealand had a shaky start, losing three wickets for just 73 runs. Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell were dismissed for 10 runs each, while Kane Williamson managed only one run before getting out.

A crucial 118-run partnership between Will Young and Tom Latham steadied the innings, with Young scoring a brilliant 107 before getting out.

After Young’s dismissal, Latham and Glenn Phillips added another 125 runs. Phillips was dismissed in the final over after scoring 61 runs.

For Pakistan, Abrar Ahmed and Haris Rauf took one wicket each, while Naseem Shah claimed two wickets.

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to bowl first, aiming to restrict the visitors and start the tournament with a win.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner expressed confidence in his team’s performance, hoping to put Pakistan under pressure with a strong total.
