Ch. Latif Akbar challenges nomination rejection, vows to exhaust all legal options

Islamabad: In a major political development ahead of the General Elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the nomination papers of the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Acting President, and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate from Khawra, Muzaffarabad, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, have been rejected by the Returning Officer.

Following the rejection, Chaudhry Latif Akbar immediately filed an appeal against the decision; however, his appeal was also dismissed.

Commenting on the matter, a spokesperson for Chaudhry Latif Akbar stated that a decision has been made to pursue legal action against the objections raised by the Returning Officer on the nomination papers. The spokesperson said that after reviewing all legal and constitutional aspects of the case, his legal team has formulated a strategy to approach the relevant forums.

According to the spokesperson, the first step will be to approach the legal forum designated by the Election Commission and file an appeal against the objections. If necessary, the matter will subsequently be taken to the High Court, the Supreme Court, and all other constitutional and legal forums to ensure that Chaudhry Latif Akbar’s position is presented and defended in accordance with the law.
