43 Candidates jumps into AJK General Elections arena from LA-3 Mirpur City Constituency;

MIRPUR: The process of filing nomination papers for the scheduled July 27, 2026 General Elections in the LA-3 Mirpur City constituency of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has been completed, with a total of 43 candidates submitting their nomination papers, according to information gathered from the office of the Returning Officer.

Local AJK Election Commission  sources told this Correspondent here on Wednesday that several candidates submitted more than one nomination paper or filed from multiple constituencies as a precautionary measure under election regulations. Following the scrutiny process, conducted on Wednesday,  the Election Commission has released the preliminary list of approved candidates.

The election schedule will now proceed through the stages of objections, appeals, and withdrawals, after which the final list of contestant candidates will be announced, according to the sources.

Political observers here  describe LA-3 Mirpur City as one of the most significant and influential constituencies in Azad Jammu Kashmir, where closely contested electoral battles have historically taken place. The unusually high number of candidates this year has added further interest to the electoral contest, with political parties actively finalizing their campaign strategies.

Analysts believe that, alongside candidates from major political parties, a considerable number of independent contenders could play a decisive role in shaping the election outcome. Voters are expected to focus on candidates’ political standing, election manifestos, and public outreach campaigns in the coming weeks.

Social and political circles have expressed hope that the electoral process will be conducted in a transparent, fair, and peaceful manner, enabling voters to freely exercise their democratic right to elect their representative. The AJK Election Commission is reportedly making final arrangements to ensure that all election stages are completed in accordance with the prescribed rules and schedule.

Among the prominent candidates emerging in the constituency  LA-3 Mirpur – IIIare Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Yasir Sultan Chaudhry of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Sain Zulfiqar Ali of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and independent candidates including Umair Asghar, Moeez Majeed Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, and Chaudhry Israr Advocate.
