US-Iran mediation efforts: 55pc Pakistanis praise COAS-CDF’s role

ISLAMABAD: A majority of Pakistanis recognise the role of Pakistan’s military and political leadership in efforts to resolve tensions between United States and Iran.

This was revealed in a survey conducted by Ipsos Pakistan, in which more than 1,000 people from across the country participated.

In response to a question about mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, 55pc of respondents praised the role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and considered it important for mediation, while 38pc appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Six percent also commended the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

When asked how Pakistanis feel about these mediation efforts, 45pc described it as a major achievement for Pakistan, while 37pc said it improved Pakistan’s global image.

About 33pc believed efforts strengthened Pakistan’s diplomacy, and 31pc said they increased Pakistan’s importance in the world.

Ipsos Pakistan also asked respondents about support from other countries for these mediation efforts. In response, 58pc said China supported mediation the most, 42pc mentioned Turkiye, 31pc Saudi Arabia and 24pc Russia. Twelve percent pointed to Qatar, 12pc to United Arab Emirates, 10pc to Malaysia, and 8pc to United States as supporters.

The survey also showed an increase in awareness among Pakistanis regarding these mediation efforts, with 74pc saying they were aware of them, compared to 65pc in the previous survey.
