Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties and expanding security cooperation with Russia, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to the military’s media wing, the resolve came during a meeting between the army chief and Russia’s Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev at the General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi.
During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and the regional security environment, with particular emphasis on strengthening bilateral security cooperation, the ISPR added.
They underscored the importance of closer institutional linkages and improved coordination between the security institutions of Pakistan and Russia.
The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability and acknowledged the professionalism and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism.
Pakistan, Russia agree to further strengthen bilateral cooperation
Pakistan and Russia have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across various fields including prevention of crimes.
The understanding to this effect was reached during delegation-level talks led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the Russia’s interior minister held in Islamabad earlier today, Radio Pakistan reported.
Both the leaders decided to sign a memorandum of understanding on information sharing to combat organised crime, finalise agreements on extradition and criminal transfers and ensure early implementation of the Readmission Agreement.
They also agreed to enhance cooperation between Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force and relevant Russian agencies.
Both sides agreed that working groups from the Interior Ministries of the two countries will soon visit each other’s countries.
Discussions were held on sending skilled manpower from Pakistan to Russia, as well as simplifying visa procedures for tourists and the business community.
