POS monitoring strengthened to improve revenue compliance in Mirpur Division.

MIRPUR :   Commissioner Inland Revenue (South Zone) Syed Ansar Ali on Friday directed the POS Task Force and departmental IT wing to intensify monitoring of Point of Sale (POS) systems and resolve technical issues affecting revenue collection on an emergency basis.
He issued the directives while chairing a meeting on POS operations, during which he reviewed briefings from circle officers and the POS Task Force and examined a comparative assessment of revenue generated through POS systems by different brands operating in Mirpur, an IRD spokesperson told this Correspondent here on Friday.
The circle officers briefed the meeting on technical problems reported by various brands, including disruptions following internet outages, while some outlets continued to report issues with the POS system. The commissioner directed the POS Task Force and IT wing to identify and address such problems promptly, according to the Spokesperson.
The IRD Commissioner also ordered round-the-clock monitoring and field presence of the POS Task Force, besides assigning responsibilities to circle in-charge officers and field staff for launching a comprehensive public awareness campaign regarding POS systems and verification of invoices and bills.
In the wake of the campaign, every brand and store will be required to display informative banners explaining the POS system and procedures for verifying invoices. The commissioner urged consumers to obtain original bills/invoices with every purchase and verify them through the Inland Revenue Department’s Tax Asan App. In case of non-verification or any irregularity, citizens were advised to immediately inform the concerned Inland Revenue officials or POS field staff.
The commissioner further directed Inland Revenue officers and the POS Task Force to take action against violations in accordance with law, including sealing a concerned brand or store after obtaining approval from the competent authority and imposing substantial fines where warranted. He directed all officers and field staff to launch the enforcement and awareness drive in full force.
