SARGODHA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUIF) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said for the supremacy of Constitution and rule of law in Pakistan, everyone must work within their constitutionally defined limits. Only then, he said, can the country move forward.

Speaking to JUIF Sargodha district chief Rao Abdul Qayyum at his residence, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said: We have spoken only about Constitution and the law, and it has never been our intention to offend anyone. We want Parliament to perform its constitutional role and institutions to carry out their respective responsibilities.

Referring to his recent speech, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said he had already clarified the controversy after it was widely circulated on social media.

There is no doubt our martyrs deserve highest respect, and we honour their sacrifices. As far as politics is concerned, politics is the job of politicians, and we will not allow anyone to interfere in it, he said. He added, I still maintain we have always tried to ensure every institution fulfills the responsibilities assigned to it under Constitution. Whenever anyone exceeds the constitutional limits, problems arise. We have spent 75 years trying to correct these mistakes, yet we have learned little from them, which continues to raise serious questions. Maulana Fazlur Rehman said Constitution defines powers and responsibilities of Parliament, judiciary, establishment, bureaucracy, and rights of ordinary citizens. When everything is clearly laid down in Constitution, no individual or institution should consider itself above it, he emphasised.
