Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Azad Jammu and Kashmir have formally announced a political alliance for the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference addressed by PPP AJK President Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin and JUI-F AJK chief Maulana Saeed Yousaf. Also present were Senior Minister Mian Abdul Waheed, PPP candidate Nabeela Ayub, Political Assistant Syed Azadar Hussain Kazmi, DG Political Affairs Aamir Zeeshan Jarral, Zobia Khurshid, Abdul Shakoor Siddiq, and other party leaders.
Under the agreement, JUI-F candidates in LA-23 Sudhnoti/Pallandri and LA-14 Western Bagh/Dhirkot will contest as joint candidates of both parties. In line with the party’s decision, PPP candidates Nabeela Ayub and Zobia Khurshid will withdraw their nomination papers from these constituencies. In all other constituencies, JUI-F will fully support PPP candidates.
The two leaders stated that the alliance was made possible through the efforts of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin described the alliance as a historic development in AJK politics. He praised Maulana Fazlur Rehman as a seasoned and visionary politician, saying the partnership would benefit both parties as well as the state. He reiterated that PPP has always championed the Kashmir cause at national and international forums, adding that the party’s foundation is closely linked to the Kashmir issue.
Maulana Saeed Yousaf said this was the first formal political alliance between JUI-F and PPP in Azad Kashmir. He confirmed that while PPP would support JUI-F candidates in two constituencies, JUI-F would direct its candidates and workers in all other constituencies to fully back PPP nominees. He also urged JUI-F candidates who had already filed nomination papers to withdraw them in accordance with the party’s decision to strengthen the alliance.
