Urges UN to address India’s actions and play role in resolving Kashmir dispute

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has expressed grave concern over India’s ongoing attempts to alter the demographic composition of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), urging the United Nations to take immediate notice of these actions and actively intervene in resolving the long-standing Kashmir dispute.

The APHC convened a meeting of its constituents and leaders in Srinagar, where it was emphasized that the BJP-led Indian government is implementing policies in the occupied territory that bear striking resemblance to Israel’s approach in Palestine. In a statement, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas highlighted that the Indian government is using military force and draconian laws to suppress the Kashmiri people’s desire for freedom. The meeting underscored the alarming rise in extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, dismissals of government employees, and the forcible occupation of Kashmiri properties by Indian authorities.

Hurriyat leaders also pointed out that India, in its bid to perpetuate its illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, had annulled Articles 370 and 35A. The meeting reiterated that a sustainable peace and security in South Asia will remain unattainable until the Kashmir dispute is resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The meeting called upon both India and Pakistan to initiate a dialogue process aimed at resolving the Kashmir dispute, in line with the relevant United Nations resolutions and the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people. This effort, the APHC underscored, is crucial for ensuring sustainable peace and development in South Asia.

The meeting expressed deep alarm over the continued suffering of Kashmiri detainees, including APHC Chairman, Massart Alam Butt, Shabir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik , Syeda Asiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Merajuddin Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Fahmeeda Sofi, Nahida Nasreen, Syed Shahid Yousuf Shah, Syed Shakeel Yousuf Shah, Bilal Siddiqi, Moulvi Bashir Irfani, Mushtaqul Islam, Ameer Hamza, Dr Hameed Fayaz, Abdul Ahad Parra, Noor Muhammad Fayaz, Hayat Ahmed Butt, Showket Hakeem, Zaffar Akbar Butt, Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Ghulam Qadir Butt, Rafiq Ahmad Ganai, Zahoor Ahmed Butt, Umar Adil Dar, Saleem Nanaji, Muhammad Yasin Butt, Fayaz Hussain Jaferi, Adil Siraj Zargar, Dawood Zargar, human rights defender Khurram Parvaiz and former Bar presidents, Mian Abdul Qayoom and Nazir Ahmed Ronga, and Advocate Muhammad Ashraf Butt.
