Australia thrash Pakistan by 29 runs in rain-hit first T20I

BRISBANE – Australia thrashed Pakistan by 29 runs in the reduced overs first T20I in Brisbane on Thursday.

Storm delayed the start of match which was later reduced to seven overs a side fixture.

Chasing a challenging 94-run target for the victory, Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and ended at 64/9 in the allocated seven overs.

Abbas Afridi was the top scorer who made 20 runs. Haseebullah Khan scored 12 and Shaheen Shah Afridi contributed 11 runs. No other batter could enter the double figures.

Nathan Ellis and Xavier Bartlett bagged three wickets each and Adam Zampa two while Spencer Johnson took one wicket. Glenn Maxwell was named player of the match.

After being asked to bat first by Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan, Australia scored 93/4 in the allocated seven over.

Glenn Maxwell was the top scorer with 43 runs followed by Marcus Stoinis who made 21. Jake Fraser-McGurk scored nine while Matthew Short contributed seven runs.

Abbas Afridi bagged two wickets while Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf took one wicket each.
