Multan man arrested after allegedly chasing teenager, 15, with car and running him over
MULTAN: Police have registered a murder case after a 15-year-old boy was allegedly chased and run over by a man in a car at a private housing society in Multan, with the suspect arrested.
The case was registered with the police as complainant, Multan City Police Officer (CPO) Akhtar Farooq said. The victim, who was identified as Waseem, was an orphan.
According to initial investigation, he was working at a house under construction for the suspect, identified as Tauqeer, when he left the job and was allegedly pursued by the man in his car.
Police said CCTV footage reportedly showed the teenager running away before the car struck him. Initial inquiries found no evidence that the boy had stolen anything, police officials said.
Boy sent to learn electrician’s work
Farooq said Waseem lived at an orphanage run by a non-governmental organisation (NGO). The orphanage administration had sent him to Tauqeer seven days before the incident to learn a trade.
The suspect undertook electrical work at various buildings and was teaching the boy to become an electrician, according to the police officer.
Farooq said children from the orphanage had previously been sent to the suspect for vocational training.
Orphanage staff questioned
Police have detained some members of the orphanage administration for questioning as part of the investigation.
The inquiry is continuing, with investigators examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and the boy’s placement with the suspect. Police have not found any clue of stealing by the victim, according to the initial investigation.
Boy buried in Muzaffargarh
Waseem was buried in his home district of Muzaffargarh after his funeral prayers were held in Daulatpur village. He was laid to rest in his family’s ancestral graveyard.
His uncle and maternal uncle took his body to Muzaffargarh after it had been kept in a mortuary. Police said the funeral was held without delay because of the condition of the body.
Only close relatives and officials from the orphanage attended the funeral.
‘Such crimes will not be tolerated’
Sharing details, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said Waseem had been living at the Dar-ul-Khuda orphanage for six years before being handed over to contractor Tauqeer a week ago to learn electrical work.
She said Waseem was mistreated at the workplace on November 19 and fled. Tauqeer and his associate Amjad allegedly chased him in a car for around one kilometre before running him over, killing him.
Bokhari said Tauqeer had been arrested and the vehicle seized, while police were conducting raids in Faisalabad to arrest Amjad.
“Women and children are Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s red line. Such crimes will not be tolerated under any circumstances in Punjab,” she said.
FIR No. 990/2026 has been registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, with police as the complainant. The arrested suspect has been remanded for five days, she added.
The minister said the prosecution was working with police to build a strong case, while Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was personally overseeing the matter and had directed authorities to ensure justice “at all costs”.
Bokhari said the SP Cantt had met Waseem’s family in Muzaffargarh, assured them of assistance and provided financial support.
