AJK SC Chief Justice stresses enduring Pakistan-Kashmir legal, institutional ties:
The AJK chief justice described his return to his “own bar” as chief justice of Azad Kashmir after 18 years as an emotional and honourable moment, and said he had focused on institutional reforms to improve the judicial system since assuming office.
Justice Khan attributed the disposal of cases before the AJK Supreme Court during 2025-26 to the collective efforts of the entire judicial team and appreciated Pakistan’s legal and judicial fraternity for its role in strengthening the judicial system in AJK.
He said longstanding ties existed between the legal communities and judiciaries of Pakistan and AJK, while bar associations and lawyers across Pakistan had consistently extended respect and affection to the people and judiciary of Azad Kashmir. He particularly acknowledged support from bar associations in Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Karachi and the High Court Bar.
The chief justice said lawyers of the Supreme Court and high courts of Pakistan should be provided opportunities to appear before superior courts of AJK to further strengthen professional links. He stressed that judges and lawyers had complementary roles in the administration of justice and said cooperation between the two was indispensable for effective dispensation of justice. He said that similar gathering will soon be managed in Mirpur to further strengthen ties between the legal communities of Pakistan and Kashmir.
