Rawalakot AJK on Edge: Death Toll Rises, Curfew Fears Grow
Rawalakot : The security situation in Rawalakot and its surrounding areas remains highly tense, with reports indicating a continued eterioration in law and order. According to unconfirmed reports, at least seven people have lost their lives and more than 80 others have been injured in violent clashes reported today. The wounded have been shifted to various medical facilities, where several are said to be in critical condition.
Sources claim that one of the injured individuals being treated in the emergency ward of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) sustained injuries allegedly caused by pellet gun fire. However, no official confirmation has yet been issued regarding this claim.
Meanwhile, Azad Kashmir Police stated that four security personnel were killed and 20 others injured during the clashes.
The funeral prayers of a young man identified as Shahzaib could not be held on Sunday as planned. According to local sources, efforts were made to organize the funeral at the college ground, but movement restrictions and heightened security measures reportedly prevented large gatherings, resulting in the postponement of the funeral.
Unofficial reports further suggest that two of the deceased were young men from Hussain Kot and Parat. Authorities, however, have yet to release complete details regarding the reported fatalities.
Tensions in the region have reached a critical level, causing widespread concern among residents. Sources indicate that the administration is considering stricter measures to restore order, while reports of a possible curfew or other emergency restrictions continue to circulate. No official announcement has been made in this regard so far.
Political and public representatives have urged all parties to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, and take immediate steps toward restoring peace in order to prevent further loss of life and escalation of the crisis.
